James Robert Upp, Jr.
MD, FACS, FAAP
Dr. Robert (Bobby) Upp is a long time resident of Baton Rouge who choose to return to Baton Rouge after a successful career in academic surgery to join Dr Faith Hansbrough creating Pediatric Surgery of Louisiana. He attended LSU in Baton Rouge and is a graduate of LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport. He completed his residency at UTMB-Galveston and a fellowship at Columbus Children’s Hospital (now Nationwide Children’s Hospital) with The Ohio State University.
Board certified in Pediatric Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and General Surgery. He has expertise in congenital pediatric head and neck, thoracic and abdominal surgery, minimally invasive surgery including robotic surgery, pediatric surgical oncology, and serves as the pediatric surgery director for the OLOL Trauma Service. Other interests include hydrocele, inguinal and umbilical hernias, and prenatally diagnosed problems. He and his partners enjoy sharing their expertise with The LSU School of Medicine Department of Surgery training our surgeons of the future.
In practice since 1991, Dr. Upp treats patients up to 18 years old. He is known for his availability, competence and compassion. His child-friendly practice offers state-of-the-art surgical care and a clear interest in his young patients. A resident of Baton Rouge, Dr Upp is married and has three children. His favorite leisure activities are adventure traveling, boating, LSU sports and most of all spending time with his family.
